The hotel was honoured to welcome the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom at a glittering UK launch event at the weekend (4 May).

Rohitha Bogollagama joined guests at the unveiling of a new range of Sri Lankan spirits that is set to be made available across the UK.

The Dover Marina Hotel & Spa was chosen for the launch by VA Distilleries’ chief executive Sanuth Gunasekera, who said the unbeatable location and the quality of the hotel’s offering made it the ideal location for the unveiling.

He added that he also wanted to take advantage of the “inspirational” presence of fellow Sri Lankan Mr K Rajaseelan (universally known as Seelan), whose transformation of the hotel over the past few years has won him many plaudits.

Many of the guests took the opportunity to tour the hotel, which is about to unveil 24 new luxury rooms as part of a major expansion that will include a new reception area, bar and conference/meeting facilities.

Invited guests, including the ambassador, sampled VA King Coconut Vodka, North Coast Arrack and VA Black Genuine Arrack before enjoying a range of cocktails created from the three unique and distinctive spirits.

The launch event, which included an impressive audio-visual presentation, disco floor, canapes, regional food dishes and flamboyant cocktails, also highlighted the venue’s reputation for hosting events of all kinds, from product launches and team meetings to conferences and weddings. “We have a skilled events team here that can make a first class job of all kinds of events,” commented general manager Pradeep Wijesinghe.

VA Distilleries also produces whisky, brandy, gin and vodka, but chose exclusive and innovative products for the UK launch.
